Making My Own Scrapbook

I go to an art group at BYHP and last term we created our own scrapbooks. I used an old Cardboard box and painted it blue inside and green on the outside. I chose to have a sweet shop theme and so made lots of little paper jars to create a window sweet shop effect on the outside, using brown card as the window frame and plastic sheets to create the glass effect. On the inside I then used sponges and foam in the shape of foam fruit shapes, like the traditional foam banana. I then chose a mixture of card and marble paper I had made on a previous week and stitched this into the spine of my book and this was the finished product:

Staying Strong January 2nd

The goal for today was to go somewhere you haven't been before, living in a small town made this difficult especially as I don't drive so I walked a different way to the bus station and found this little spot of beauty. The canal had flooded into this little area of trees and the sun was shining off of it, nature is a huge greater force, it has the power to kill living creatures or to enable living creatures to survive and yet it also capable of beautiful things small and large. Pretty incredible right?

I suppose the message from today is to appreciate the area you live in more, there is always beauty around you as long as you open your eyes to see it. It's what YOU make of a place and the way YOU see a place that makes it beautiful or not.

Staying strong January 1st

I invested in Demi Lovato's book 'staying strong 365 days a year'. I'm not normally one for celebrity books but her story inspires me and I love how she is recovered and a healthy normal size and weight, such a good role model.
Anyway so in today's part of the book Demi wrote about her mantra, "you are beautifully and wonderfully made" and the goal set was to come up with one's own mantra.
I chose, "Be yourself for that is who you were born to be" because I struggle with confidence and low self esteem and often find myself holding back and hiding away in social situations but there is only one of me, the same as there is only one of you. Why waste that? Embrace it.

Scrapbook

I am totally rubbish at keeping diaries, if I get busy or go away and miss a day or two my perfectionist qualities lead to me giving up on it completely and throwing it away but I think it is good to document things, particularly when suffering from mental illness, so that you can look back on the year and see achievements. This year, instead of a diary I've decided to scrapbook as and when things happen and I get time and hopefully next New Years Eve I will look at it and see how far I've come.
